Closing down and Opening up
In the UK millions of people have been directly affected by the death of a friend or family member during the pandemic. It was a time of anxiety, horror and grief and Steve strongly believed that his images should reflect this.
Steve made photographs for over 50 years and spent 30 of those as a professional advertising photographer.
His images are conceptual in nature, very dark both in style and content. They illustrate the waiting and searching for answers, the confinement of lockdown, the inability to help a sick loved one, death and grief and finally the deceased as a negative – a minus. In all, the faces are hidden until, in death and grief, the person is revealed. The images have been described as “darkly unsettling”.
Sadly, Steve passed away 10th December, 2021
